As reported by the restaurant, about 1569 a ship named the “Philly P” owned by Fernando D. Phillippi sailed up the creek to the area which is now occupied by Beneva and Bee Ridge Roads. The land became fill, and more was built upon it, enriching the wallet of Fernando D. Phillippi. Present day piers on which the restaurant sits were added by Fernando’s cousin, Pepe; the site of the present day restaurant was the winter home of the Phillippi family. During hurricane Maria in 1619, Fernando disappeared; rumor is that his ghost ship, the “Philly P”, can still be seen sailing up the creek on a moonlit night.
